  10. Virgin Net Recommended System Requirements

  12. IMPORTANT - These reflect the recommended requirements. The minimum requirements for each application are described in the readme files included with each version.

  14. Processor: 68030/68040 (4.01 only) or any Power Macintosh (4.5/5.0)

  16. MacOS version: 7.1 (4.01 only), Version 7.5.5 or higher is recommended, Version 8.1 or higher is required for Outlook Express 5.0

  18. Memory: 16MB is strongly recommended (1)

  20. Disk Space: approximately 20-45MB.

  22. Open Transport 1.1.1 or higher is required for Internet Explorer/Outlook Express 4.5/5.0.

  26. (1) The above memory requirement refers to physical memory. We would recommend you increase this to at least 20MB (24MB recommended) by switching on Virtual Memory.

  28. How much Memory do I have ?

To check how much memory you have on your Macintosh computer. Make sure you are in the Finder. You can use the application menu on the right hand side of the menu bar to switch to the Finder. The top item on the Apple menu should read "About This Macintosh" or "About This Computer". Select this item to view how much memory is available on your Macintosh.

  32. Turning on Virtual Memory

If you do not have enough memory to meet these System Requirements you can enable Virtual Memory. This will allow you to run the Virgin Net client software by using part of your Hard Disk as 'virtual' or 'pretend' memory. You can enable Virtual Memory by using the Memory Control Panel. Make sure Virtual Memory is turned on and is set to the amount of memory required (24MB is recommended).
